Single String Melody

Updated: Oct 30, 2023

Here's a fun exercise for you. Next time you're working on a lead melody, why not try limiting yourself to one string? What that's going to do is literally cause you to think outside of the pentatonic box and come up with some new and interesting melodies. I use this in a song called Bullet in the Blame, where the majority of the melody takes place only on the B string. And then I'll return to the box for some accents in between just to spice it up.
